EASTBOURNE AFFAIRS
BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS.
The monthly meeting- of tho Eastbourne Borough Council was held hist evening nr V h£ c,h.airmanshiP °f the Mayor (Mr. F. H. Mather). The following were also present.—Councillors H. W. Shortt C. Hartndge, 0. Hull-Brown, H M Jonos. E. 4. Dawson, C. Bowden, and C. A. Marquis.
The general manager's report stated that. Hie usual maintenance work had been carried out em the roads, and a, start had been made with the concrete kerbing opposite the infant school. Mr. W. R. Entwistle had been appointed caretaker of reserves. The tennis courts had been well patronised. It was proposed to put couorete floors in the dressing sheds at the Recreation Ground. Mr. Andrew Duncan had been appointed borough foreman. The coal depot showed receipts totalling £151 2s 3d, and the expenditure amounted to £168 3s. Building permits totalled £1718_, fees paid amounting to £3 15s. Permits issued since Ist April amounted to £7995. The report was adopted. The General Purposes Committee recommended that a sum be provided in the vicinity of Miss Foley's store for the purpose- of disposing- of storm water, which collects at that point. The council adopted the recommendation.
The samo committee reported o nstreet lighting. It recommended that when current wa? available from Mangahao 91 lamps should bo installed, at a. total cost of £331 10s.
A Municipal Association's remit that the Mayor of any borough should be elected by and from amongst councillors was submitted for discussion and approved.
