A committee meeting of the Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals was held this week, when the president, Mr. IT. Mea-dowcroft, presided over a good attendance of members. It was reported by the inspector that since the previous meeting he had investigated 32 cases of alleged cruelty. The majority of the cases were in and around the city, though visits had been paid to Featherston and MaJtinborough. In one case, proceedings were taken against a farmer on a charge of ill-treating and torturing a bull. In other instances neglect of animals had been remedied by a caution, and in several cases advice had been given and suffering relieved. Collections amounting to £20.18 a were acknowledged, and these included £1 1b each from Mrs. A. ,T. Atkinson, Mrs. A. Low. Messrs. A. Strane, Wilfoid. Levi, and Jackson, R. D.~ Riga-, Vacuum Oil Co., J. A. Plimmer. T. E. Corkhili. A donation from the- ETuenzol Proprietary of Q-tol specially prepare?" for animal use was also acknowledged.
