MONTHLY MEETING HELD.

Tlic usual monthly meeting; of the Wellington Harbour Board "was .held last evening. Mr. G. '.Mitchell occupied the .chair, and there were present :— Messrs. M. Ochen, J. !G. Oobbe, J. W. M'Ewan, SI. W. Welch, H. D. Bennett, D. J. M'Uowan, J. G. Harkness, T. R. Barrer, and Captain. C; F. Pcet. The Chairman made reference to the engineer's report on works in progress, and staled that tho concrete work on the Pipitea AV'harf was now complclol and cthiii' work was dd'awing to a close. The engineer had stated that the work would bo completed at a, very much lower cost than tho, lowest contract price, but the actual saving had not yet been worked out, though that information .wculd probably be given at tho next meeting of tho board. The fencing contract was being pushed on, and the sea-wall contractor was making full use of hie time. Certain of the wharf (sheds were in reed cf re-roofing, and that work * was in hand, A recommendation from tile Wharves and Accounts Committee that a piece of land at the northern end of the Patent Slip reserve should be handed over to the City Corporation for road straiehtening purposes was approved by the board, as was also a second recommendation that the board v.as unable to agree to vest a nortion of the Worser Bay pilot elation reserve in the council as a picniu reserve. A formal resolution fihat the fiaal of the board should be affixed to the. tender of Mr. C. F. Pulley, fur the- construction of the Thorndon sea wall al a price, of £181.794 15a was than recorded. After very brief discussion the application of the Wellington Carnival and AdvcrLisiii"- Association for the use of tho Thoni.don Store (No. 45) for Welcome Week was grinted. .. Mr. M'Gowait in accordance with notice of motion, brought forward a- proposal th.it the Government should be asked to amend the regulations for the elections _by owners of,ships and payers of dues in the direction of alterins'Uie present poliutr hour.-; (10 a .m »p 4 ti ni.) 1.0 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., stating that the present regulations were framed thirteen years ago, when the roll numbered not more than a third of what it is to-day.
