MR, HARRY HAYR, AUCKLAND.
The death is reported by Press Association telegram from Auckland of Mr. Harry H.-Hayr, one of the best-known .racing men in. New Zealand, at the age of 64 years. Mr. Hayr, who was one of the founders, of the Avondale Jockey Club, and was its honorary .secretary for many years, was bom in Auckland on 18th June, 1859', and educated at the Auckland Grammar ' School. While a youth he entered ■ the office of the New Zealand Shipping. Company. He held the position of purser for some years, and afterwards joined, the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, trading between Sydney, New Zealand, and San Francisco. Some years later he commenced business in Auckland as agent for the Burlington Railway Company, U.S.A., and many other commercial firms. Subsequently he purchased the printing business now known as the Scott Printing Company. Mr. Hayr for many years worked the totalisator machines for the Avondale Jockey Club, Auckland Placing- Club, Coromandel Racing Club, Egmont Racing Club, and Rotorun Jockey Club, and from time to time was the owner of a number of racehorses.
