PRISONERS RECEIVE SENTENCES.

The younsr lad, Henry George-Smith,' who had 'been. remanded on charges of breaking, entering, and theft, in order to enable more particulars as td the boy's, record .to be secured, was ih« rirei .prisoner to be dealt with. The Crown Prosecutor said that the boy was born in 1907. Ho had been associated with a sang of thieves, of which, despite his usje. he was the leader. '.

Kis Honour said that all he could do was _to order a fairly lons' term. of detention for reformative purposes, ;n the hope that the sentence would have som» benefit. He fixed the term at three years. Jack Johnston .had pleaded suiity to four charges of breaking, entering." .-.rid theft at New Plymouth. There were brevious convictions against the accused for theft and breaking'and entering, and for his last series of crimes he had received four years' reformative detention. ':
His Honour said that Various experiments had been tried without success. Johiihton was sentenced to imprisonment for three years with hard labour.
