KARORI v. HUTT.

The gro«nd at the Hutt upon which Karori and the local eleven played their game wns in a most unsatisfactory condition, and on numerous occasions the ball rolled into hollows, from which it lad to be lifted before play could be continued. However, the Hockey was well above senior standard, and the game, from the spectators' point of view, was most interesting. Hutt had slightly ••lie better of matters in the firsf spell, which was_ played at an unsually fast puce, but in the second play was fairly even. Slater and Smith both tried shots for Hutt in the opening stages of '■he game, but Moore was very safe in {oal. Webley made a good opening, but rris effort was nullified by his inaccurate shooting. A good long shot by Moore sent Hutt back up the field, but after a period of scrambling -play, F. Lusty tfok advantage of an opening and scored.. Karori instituted a ' promising movement, but Heaphy was robbed of the leather. Tho Blacks, however, finally managed to make the opposing circle, where they tried hard to find the net, but Harvey defended well: M'Gregor also tried some hard shots, !but tho goalie managed to slmvl the neC/ Thorpe managed to break up a good' Karori nlovernuut, but Fredericks and Heaphy relieved the attacks, and were forcing hard v.iien the spoil ended. Tho second^ spell was . not played at such a. fast pace as the first, but. honours were still slightly balanced, in favour of Hutt. A considerable number of determined attempts were made on both sides, but the rearguards did their work well. After having . beaten the usually safe Pen-in, Smith .attacked Karon's goal, but the whistle stopped him from scoring. Hntt opened, up a forceful assault upon tlie Karori goal upon Webley contring 'to ¥. , Lusty. The latter sent in a hard shot, which did not give the goalie a chance. For the remainder of the game honours were evenly contested, and no further score on either side resulted.

Mr. E. J- Lloyd gave every satisfaction with the whistle.
