NO-CONFIDENCE AMENDMENT.
A further insight into the business transacted at the Liberal-Labour Party's caucus was provided in the House yesterday afternoon, when the Leader of the_ party ,_ Mr. T. M. Wilford, gave notice of his intention to move an amendment to the Address-in-Reply. The amendment was much longer than that proposed by him during the February session, and because of the ground it covered it resembled a Labour amendment. Mr. Wilford will seek to make the-.following addition to the respectful address contemplated by, Mr. J. C. Rolleston:—"We feel it, however, to be our duty to submit to Your Excellency that Your Excellency's Government does not possess the confidence of the House or country; and, further, we submit to Your Excellency that this session of Parliament? should not -end until there be placed on the Statute Book legislation urgently needed in the interests of the country dealing with electoral reform, revision of taxation, revision of the whole pensions system, land settlement, housing and unemployment, revaluation of' soldiers' lands, the establishment of a State bank, an agricultural bank, provision for medical and dental treatment of backblocks settlers,' and legislation dealing with trusts and combines; and, further, as the Government has not declared any policy in regard to defence, or reference to other questions which will be discussed at,the Imperial Conference, we submit to Your Excellency that full and ample opportunity be given to this House to discuss in detail the various matters which may come up for consideration at such conference, and that the Government should take the House and country into its confidence in regard to its attitude on the 'several matters which will come up for consideration at such conference."
