STOWAWAYS' FATE

LITERALLY ROASTED ALIVE.

NEW YORK, 14th June.

The sugar freighter Santa Theresa, which has just arrived from Philadelphia, reports that five Cuban stowaways were trapped between the coal bunkers and the boilers while the ship was en route from Cuba, and were literally roasted to death by scorching heat from the boilers.

Four other Cubans, who also stowed away in the hold, not far from the five, were in a serious condition when the ship arrived. They were gassed by fumes from the boilers, and are not expected to live.
