A CONTROL BOARD
ACTION .OF FRUITGROWERS.
The New. Zealand Fruitgrowers' Association yesterday adopted the l'ollowjiug resolution:—''That in the opinion of this meeting a Fruitgrowers' Control Koard should be set up; or, as an alternative,..the Fruitgrowers' Federation be given the necessary powers to taka control on the. local market of standardisation, marking, and advertising; and, so far as export is concerned, the hoard or federation to have control of shipping, advertising, and insurance; also, decision as to which ports or countries the fruit k to be shipped;, such body to have, the power to make a levy on all pip fruit sold either locally or exported. This conference urges all representatives to immediately consult the growers in their respective provinces with a view to securing their approval and taking the necessary steps to obtain the requisite legislation during the present session."
Mr. Green (Auckland) mdved: "Thai ths principle be approved of a board of control, including an outside body of experts, to carry out the recommendations of the committee now before'the conference."
Mr. Gilbert (Nelson) moved, as an amendment: "That the federation be vested with the powers necessary, including calling in of any outside assistance required to give effect to the majority .recommendation of members of associations of New Zealand, and that the maximum Jevy be id per case." lh e voting was:—For the amendment, 16; against, 16. The chairman gave Jus vote' for the amendment), which was then put and carried as a substantive motion.
