WAIHI, Hth June.

A. Carribridge, employed on the WaihiKatikati section of the- railway construction works, slipped and fell while leading a. horse-drawn truck along an enbankment. One of the wheels of the truck passed over his shoulder, inflicting serious injury. He was picked up unscious, and later admitted to the Waihi District Hospital. He regained consciousness after 12 hours.

DUNEDIN, 14th June. Mr. James Downes. 84 years of age, married, and residing at Lawrence, died suddenly to-day. As he hud not been medically attended an inquest will be necessary. <-
