SYDNEY, This Day.

The Governor-General, Lord Forster, on behalf of the United States Government, presented Captain Freakes. (!), of the cruiser Melbourne, with a pair • oC. binoculars, and seven seamen with a gold medal each, in recognition of their heroic service in rescuing the crew of the schooner Helen B. Sterling, north of New Zealand, in January, 1922. A gold watch and chain, which the President of the United States desirod to present _to tho late Rear-Admiral Dumaresq in connection with the saiiie event, was handed to his relatives.

The. Helen B. Sterling sent out an appeal for help when north of New Zealand, and the message was picked up. by the cruiser Melbourne, then on her way to Auckland. Commander Ward Hunt was in charge of the cutter that went through the heavy seas and effected -a rescue.
