ROSENEATH & ORIENTAL BAY
ELECTORS' ASSOCIATION MEETS. The. annual meeting of the Boseneath and Oriental Bay Electors' Association was held last evening, Mr. F. \V. Downes was in. the chair. The annual report states that, owing to the efforts of the association, a start was made on the 30th April with the continuation of the-sea-wall from Oriental Bay to the widening of the Evans Bay road. Progress has necessarily been slow, owing to the fact that work had been done only at low tide. A considerable amount of widening has been effected on the Evans Bay road at the Kilbirnie end, and a> very fine road has been formed. The long delay over the acquisition of the necessary land for the Roseneath lift was ended about the 30th April when a portion of the Town Belt adjacent to Mr. M'Grath's house in Oriental Bay was exchanged. for sections in Crescent road. This new entrance to the Belt is now under construction. The committee trusts that, as it has been repeatedly stated by the City Council that work on *the lift would be commenced as soon as the above-mentioned land was acquired, practical work on the lift will soon be showing-. Delegates from the association attended a large number of meetings of tho Wellington Civic League, and took an active part in all the work of the league. The balance-sheet reveals a satisfactory financial position. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. , A motion, "That the action of the City Council, in making the recent exchange of private property for a portion of the | Town Belt be not approved of," was lost on a show of hands. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows :—President, Mr. T. W. Moore; vice-president, Mr. D. M'Laren; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. M. Turnbull; committee, Messrs. P. W. Downes and T. Ward; delegates to Eastern Suburbs League and Civic League, Messrs. T. W. Moore and F. W. Downes. A deputation from the association was appointed to wait upon the Works Committee of the council and urge the, necessity for the early construction of the Roseneath lift and the carrying out of certain other works. A suggestion that the association should support, a return to the ward system of city government, on the ground that it would give direct representation was mads by Mr. J. Prendeville. It was decided to ask the Civic League to inquire whether the change was advisable. I
