MOTOR TRANSPORT
NEW ACCOMMODATION NEEDED
CORPORATION VEHICLES.
The inadequate and dilapidated housing accommodation for the Corporation rolling stock is one of the matters that will call for improvement by the new City Ccfmcil: The condition of the present buildings, and the fact that the motors are housed in two or three different parts of the city, instead of being centralised under one roof as a means of economy, have frequently been criticised by councillors and citizens in the past. It is' stated that a definite proposal is now taking shape for the improvement of the present' conditions. The Works Committee paid a visit of inspection this morning to the Corporation Yards. After viewing the buildings, upon which there has been practically no expenditure for about twenty years, the members were generally impressed with the necessity for something to be done. The matter will be discussed at the next meeting of the committee, and an item wrll probably be recommended for inclusion in the estimates. It has been suggested that the motor vehicles in use by the City Engineer's department, which are housed at the rear of the Town Hall, should be kept at the Corporation yard, and that the whole of the motor transport should be accommodated in a new twostory building at Clyde quay. :
