CIVIC LEAGUE

ELECTION COMMITTEE'S FINAL

MEETING,

On Wednesday, evening last the Civic League Election Committee held its final meeting to settle affairs in connection with the recent municipal elections. The Mayor (Mr. R. A.. Wrirght, M.P.)-at-tended, and expressed high appreciation of the work done by the committee. He thanked all members for his return, and said they should feel gratified over the success that had crowned their efforts op behalf of the league's ticket.

The secretary presented a report detailing the work that had been carried out under very trying circumstances, and making a number of suggestions for improved orgarisation and methods for another occasion.

The balance-sheet presented showed that much care bad been exercised in the expenditure of funds, and the campaign closed with a credit balance of £325.

On' the adoption of the report and balance-sheet; eulogistic references were made to the work of the secretary (Mr. P. M'Laren). Eeferences by way of thanks were made.to the Burmese Men's Comr«tttee; and to individual sympathisers ,who had rendered service in various ways throughout the campaign. In a general discussion which followed a number of useful suggestions were mads by way of reference to the Civic League, the view being expressed by numbers not attached to it that the league's' prestige was enhanced as a result of the election. A delegate from the Kelburn Ratepayers' Association stated that his association on the previous evening had resolved to join the league. The secretary accepted a verbal invitation' to attend the meeting of another association and explain the league's constitution. The chairman, in closing, said a very pleasing feature of the campaign was the spirit of good fellowship shown by all. members of the committee.
