SETTLERS TO BE ASSISTED,
The\ Government has quickly .decided to give financial assistance to those who have lost as a result of the heavy floods that have occurred in the South Is.and. The Prime Minister announces that Cabinet has decided to assist settlers who may require a certain amount of cash in order to carry on their farms. The details have not yet been worked out, but the intention is to follow the procedure adopted in the case of thei bush fires some years ago at Raetihi and Ohakune, where monetary advances were made to the settlers at a comparatively low rate of interest. In the present case of sufferers through flood damage, the rate of interest will be 5 per cent. Applications for assistance will be received by the Superintendent of the State Advances Department.
