SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION

MONTHLY MEETING,

The monthly meeting of the Sunday School Union was held laet evening. Mr. H. D. Grocott, president, occupied the chair, and thirty-six delegatek were present. It was decided to hold the scholars' examination on 7th July, at 2 p.m. The sub-committee set up to arrange teacher-training classes reported that a series of twelve lectures were to be given. The Rev. D. Catchpole would take the teachers of senior classes, Mrs. W. M. Holland the teachers' of the intermediate • grade, and Mrs. Catchpole and Miss L. Kershaw the primary depart ment. It was' resolved to conven* a meeting of the teachers and officers of all Protestant Sunday schools in the city and. suburbs to plan a recruiting campaign for new scholars. The other cities of the Dominion have already arranged such a campaign, and Wellington will b« able to profit by their experience. It was decided to send a letter to Mr. F. Meadowcroft, ex-president, congratulating him on his success in the recent City Council election. After the regular business had been disposed of, Mr W. E. Howe, the union's extension organiser, gave a most interesting account of his recent work in the Wairarapa, where j he has been organising schools where none existed, and visiting those which were being carried on by devoted men and women in places far from the beaten track. In 'one case he visited a school which had been in existence for over pight years, and during that time had never had a visit from, anyone outside until Mr. Howe looked them up and was able to give them some help as to methods and to arrange for them to receive some of the literature that town schools receive so regularly. Mr. Howe isj. to spend the next few weeks in the Forty-mile Bush, where there is an urgent call for his services.
