GISBORNE GAS COMPANY

The directors of the Gisborne Gas Company, in their fourth annual report, state that the profits are less this year than the last, and the continued .high price of coal and freight has had a detrimental effect upon the company's earning*. Consumers have been economical, as is evidenced by the reduction in the consumption of gas, but there has been a corresponding diminution in the cost of production. Taking it all round, however, and considering the large ajtoount spent in improving the company's mains and the consequent interest paid thereon, the directors think that the results obtained during the year are satisfactory. Dealing with the figures, an interim dividend of 6d per share on the ordinary shares, absorbing £1335 Is, has already been paid, and after providing for other payments, including £2326 lls 4d interest paid and accrued on debentures, the balance available for distribution is £1473 lls lOd. The directors recommend the payment of a further dividend of 6d per shore on the ordinary shares and to carry foi'vard the balance of £138 10s lOd. Tho retiring directors are Messrs. W. H. Chrisp, G. Matthewson, and W. P. Cederwall, who are eligible for re-election.
