The Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister of Edu. cation, will leave Wellington for Christchurch to-night in order to represent the Government at the jubilee celebrations of the Canterbury University College.

Mr. F. Castle, who has been chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board for the past four years, was unanimously reelected to that position at the meeting of the.board this afternoon.

The Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister of Lands and Railways, who is now resting from Ministerial duties on account of ill-health, will leave' New Zealand on 23rd June on a tour round the Islands. It will probably be some considerable time before he is able to resume charge of his portfolios.

Mr. E. M'Keen, M.P., will leave for the North to-morrow, and will return to Wellington early next week.

Honorary Captain. E. M. Irvine, Eeserve of Officers, has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces' Officers' decoration.

' Mr. John Aitken Allan, M.A., of' Wellington, who is studying at New College, Edinburgh, has been awarded the Dods Prize (New Testament) and the Davidson Prize (Old Testament).

Mr,, D. C. Turnbull was to-day elected chairman of the Timaru Harbour Board in succession to Mr. F. J. Bolleston, M.P., 'retired.—Prees Association.

Mr. Brian S. Bree, Chief Clerk of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company, has been promoted to the position of assistantmanager.

Mr. Eichard Stewart, of- the staff of J. C. Williamson, Ltd., who has not visited the Dominion for some years, is manager of the Emilie Polini Company, now at Auckland.

The appointment of Mr. F. B. L. Jameson as Clerk of the Magistrate's Court at Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt, and Petone, is notified in this week's -'Gazette."

A well-known resident of Palmerston North, Mr. Joseph Brammall, died on Wednesday evening. The late Mr. Brammall, who was aged 59, came to Wellington' from England eleven years ago, and after remaining here for about eight and a half years, commenced bjsiness in Palmerston North, where he resided up to the time of his death. He leaves a widow and two daughters, who are resident in Palmerston North.

On Tuesday evening the staff of Messrs. A. Hatrick and Co., Ltd., met to bid farewell and give a little token of. their esteem to Mr. P. J. Hopkins, who has been transferred to the South Island to take care of the Firestone branch of the business there. On behalf of the staff, Mr. Lonergan, the manager, presented Mr. Hopkins with a handsome leather suitcase, suitably inscribed, and also a travelling rug. He outlined Mr. Hopkins's activities with th« firm since the commencement some twelve years ago,* and regretted losing such a popular member from the staff at this end. Mr. Hopkins suitably replied.
