TEST MUSIC SELECTED
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE

At the last meeting of the Executive Council of the Wellington Competitions Society, the president, Mr. E. Palliser, presiding, the sub-committee appointed to go into the question' of affiliation with tho British Federation of Musical Festivals submitted' a lengthy report favourable to linking up with that body. The report was adopted, and the necessary steps are being taken to link. up with the British Federation. :
A communication was received from the Hamilton Competitions Society, inviting delegates to a conference to be held in Hamilton on or about the 10th May, with the idea of forming a New Zealand Federation of Competitions Society. It was decided to accept the invitation, and Mr. F. 'G. Gray was appointed to represent the society at the conference.
With a view to elevating, the standard of championships, it was decided that in all championship classes competitors must obtain 70 per cent, of the judges' marks to qualify for championship points, and 60 per cent, of championship points to qualify for championship. To avoid any misunderstanding regarding national songs, it was deoided that all songs in these classes mast be genuine folk songs. A communication was received from Mr. Eoland Foster (judge of the vocal section), advising that at the close of the competitions he proposed to give auditions and lectures to competitors and other interested parties. It was generally agreed that the competitors would welcome the opportunity of Hearing a lecture on voice production by such an outstanding authority. The Musical Selection Committee submitted the following selection of test pieces, which were approved :-»- Piano Section.—Under 10, "Madchen am Spinnirade" (Kullak); 10-12, "Fur Elise" (Beethoven); 12-14, "Contre Tanze" (Beethoven); 14-16, '-'Rondo in G" (Beethoven); 16-18, "Capriccio B-flat Minor" (Mendelssohn); 18-21, "Rondo A Capriccio" (Beethoven); open class, ''Reveil Sous Bois" (Diemer); chief solo, "Rhapsodic E-flat" (Brahms). Society's Scholarship.—(a), "Introduction and Fugata"(Cnthbert Harris); (b), "Sonata D. Major (Scarlatti). Bristol Scholarship.—(a), "Sonata B-flat" (Scarlatti) ; (b), '-'Capriccio B Minor" (Brahms)..
