ATHLETIC OUTPLAY HUTT.

Outlasting and outplaying their opponents in the second snell, Athletic, who were only leading by 3 points at half-time, ran up a score of 35 to nil against Hutt on the Hutt Recreation Ground. The new senior team quite held its own in the first half of the game, ,and indeed should have scored, with any luck, more than once, but they faded away at the resumption and Athletic had it practically all their own way. i There was a notably large attendance I at the match, the spectators numbering close on a thousand. The display of the Athletic backs in the second spell was very attractive, and the game should do mijph to revive Eugby locally. Hutt are by no means as weak as the score would seem to indicate, and with the promised accession of the reinstated players, should give a respectable account of themselves later on. The teams were :— Athletic—Brook; Malmanohe, Gibson, Sutton; Svenson,. Porter;- Warwick; Austed, M'Cauley, Guy, M'Naught, Eyan, Duncan, Swain, Adam. Hutt—Parker; Kilminster, Boyes, M'Intosh; M. Power, Christie; . M'Dougall; Cox, Herdman, Slinn, Silva, Long, Mitchell, Fawcett, and Carter. Hutt had a fair share of the game in the first 1 spell, and secured the ball in the majority of the scrums, though Warwick, the Athletic half, was usually able to turn the situation to the advantage of his side. Eesolute tackling, however, defeated the efforts for the time being, of Porter, Svenson, and Gibson to get the ball out to the speedy wings. Hutt, moreover, now and again took a turn with handling the ball, and one rush developed very promisingly, indeed, and reached Mitchell, who was tackled just in time close in on goal. The best Atheltic could do was a try by Gibson in the corner from a passing rush instituted by Warwick, who throughout played an excellent game. When the second spell opened, it was quickly seen that Hutt had "done their dash," as the saying goes, and were too exhausted to resist Athletio's {pnnidisble

raids. The Blues played spectacular football, and scores came thick and fast. Svenson shone in. feinting tactics, giving the "dummy" most successfully. Shortly before time was called, Hutt lost Cox through injuries, and finished the game with fourteen men. For the winners in the second spell tries were scored by Porter (4), Svenson (2), M'Naught, and Malmanche. Porter converted two tries, and Svenson and Gibson one each, the game ending: Athletic, 35 points (four goals from tries and five unconverted tries); Hutt, nil. Mr. 0. H. Cleland was referee..
