Mr. Lloyd George, speaking in Manchester in support of the effort to liquidate the debt of the local hospital, said if .the system of maintaining hospitals by voluntary contributions broke down, the cost of hospitals would be increased threefold, eminent doctors would not give their services without fees, and the country would lose what money could not buy—human sympathy.
