TRAMS HELD UP
A rather serious disorganisation of thl tram service from Miramar, jKjlbirnie and' Hataitai occurred at the very awk ward hour of 7.30 a.m. yesterday. Thi magnetic brake block of car 137, whicl; was proceeding to town, dropped justai the tram was leaving the mouth of th< tunnel, and traffic was suspended foi a,bbut half an hour. Cars were drawn up to about half-way along the inside of the tunnel, and enterprising people who "were determined to be at their employment bj '8 o'clock left the, cars and walked t( Courfcenay place, where a few "specials' 1 had been commissioned. Outward-bound traffic also was.temporarily blocked, and many workmen on their way to employment in the suburbs walked through th« tunnel. There was also a delay of about half an hour on the. Kent terrace-Adelaide road line early the same evening, owingt<i an overhead wire breaking near tht Basin Keserve. This break happened be> tween 5 and 5.30 p.m. The Tramway Department announces that as from this morning th« normal running will be resumed or the Willis street line from Lambton quay to Manners street, tile. relaying of the track on the eastern side of Wilfis street having been completed, Some time next week (the date will be definitely announced later) the work of renewing the tract on the western side of Willis street will be put in hand, and this will necessitate the diverting of traffic for Lambton and Thorndon Stations, as well as Wadegtown and Karon-bound trams, to thd Jervois quay route. However, in order to minimise inconvenience to the public aa much as possible, it is intended to run a service oh the short section from Stewart Daweon's corner to Lambtoß Station. '
