GOVERNMENT AND OTHER ADVICES.
The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 25th April, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand :— "Wool.-^The London sales opened with a very large attendance of buyers, the Continent and America being well represented. ■ A keen general demand was experienced, and competition was brisk. Compared with the closing rates for last series, the prices- for merino, fine and medium crossbred were 5 per cent, to 7£ per cent, dearer; coarse crossbred, 7£ per cent, to 10 per cent. dearer." I. Messrs. Dalgeiy and Company, Limited, report having received the following cablegram from their London house, under date of 24th April:— "Wool sales opened, attendance of buyers is large, competition animated. 7576 bales Bawra wool offered and practically all sold. 4350 bales "free" wool offered and practically all sold, except some spectacular lots. Very few merinos offered, generally 5 per cent, to 1Q per cent, higher. As compared with last sales' closing Tatee, crossbred, scoured Id to l^d higher, half bred £dto Id higher, fine crossbred Id to 1£ higher, medium crossbred Id to l£d higher, coarse crossbred |d to Id higher. Following is the range of pcb-33: -Halfbri-d, 50-56: Good to super, 19d to 21d; low to medium, 16*|d to 18£ d. Low Halfbred, 48-50: Good to super, 17id to 19|d; low to medium, 14d to.l6£d. Fine Crossbred, 46-48: Good to super. 15id to 17d; low to medium, 13d to 15d. Crossbred, 44----46: Good to super, 14d to 15d; low to medium, ll^d to 13jd. Crossbred, 40----55: Good to super, 123 to 13d; low to medium, lOd to ll|d. Coarse Crossbred, 36-40: Good to super, 10£ dto llJid; lowto medium, 9d to lOd."
