Paper came into being as a substitute for cotton during the war; and although it was used in certain countries for clothing, it did not .prove 1 successful ■enough to induce manufacturers to turn their backs upon cotton, silk., and wool. At the same time much experience has been gained, and it was proved that paper can be successfully ro.ada ?nto strong and reliable material. Paper floor mats are becoming quite popular, and may be bought in various shades of browns, and greens with contvarting borders. A very pretty paper matiing is made with a dice effect-in blue.'black, and ivory; another has six different colours worked together .m an original manner.
