TO BURN OIL FUEL. The cable report that the Orient liner Ormonde is to be converted for oil consumption is confirmed by the general manager in Australia of the Orient Line. The steamer will come off the mail run after she arrives Home, and her place will be taken by the X.M.S. Orcades, leaving London on the 26th May. The conversion of the Ormonde will then be effected by Messrs. John Brown and Co., Clydebank, who built the vessel, the work entailing a considerable expenditure in time and also in money. The time occupied will be two or three months. While the vessel is waiting to take her turn again in the Australian mail service from London, it is expected that she will carry out a few yachting cruises to Norway. One of the reasons for the conversion of the Ormonde to oilburning is the fact that the Orient Company has now under construction two 20,000-ton oilburning steamers, which will represent the latest steamship construction in as far as the Australian mail.service is concerned.
