GRAMOPHONES REVOLUTIONISED

Those acquainted with the laws of acoustics are aware that there is an intimate connection between heat nad sound, and are, well able to explain why the voices of speakers and vocalists, as well as strains of melody that emanate from musical instruments, are Ijeard to better advantages in a hot than a cold atmosphere. Mr. J. E. Kitchen; a versatile inventor, has supplied this theory, in , designing a novel gramophone attachment which can be fitted to any machine, and which revolutionises its performances. In appearance ■ (says the " Weekly Telegraph ") it consists of two upright tubes bored with a number of miniature gas jets, attached to a special sound box and tone arm. The outfit is connected to a gas supply by means of a rubber tube, and the jets lighted prior to setting the turntable in motion. As the record rotates, and the needle vibrates, the little flames vary in ,size according to the depth of tone, and in doing this they supply augmented heat to the atmosphere directly over Jhe mouth of the distributor. It is at first difficult to credit the vast improvement in reproduction when the apparatus is in operation. _ All scratching and nasal sounds ore eliminated, and the human voice rendered clear, distinct, and absolutely natural. Instrumental selections are heard just as if being actually played in the presence of the listener.
