IMPERIAL CONFERENCE
NEW ZEALAND REPRESENTATION. Though the Prime Minister some weeks ago announced that he would be unable to attend an.lmperial Conference if it were held this year, there have been hope 3 that changes in the political situation would make it possible for him to alter this decision. The position at present appears to be that there is no likelihood of the decision being reviewed before Parliament is summoned for the or-^ dinary session in June. It is possible-1 that there will have been further changes in the political position before then, and t if these occur it may be easier for tho Prime Minister to leave New Zealand. In any circumstances, there would re-' quire to be a session of Parliament befor the Prime' Minister left, as financial provision has not been made beyond the usual torm. It is considered that little would be gained in hastening the meeting of Parliament, as time must be allowed for the new by-election and the preparation of financial and legislative proposals. In quarters whore somo thought has been given to the question, regret has been expressed that the Conference having been delayed already, has not been postponed a little longer to coincide with the Empire Exhibition.
