GOLF AT HERETAUNGA
DELIGHTFUL WEATHER
FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND.
In contrast to Saturday's weather, to-day was delightful at Heretaunga for play in the provincial golf championships. There was bright sunshine and a very light wind. The beautiful links, situated in the green basin, presented a delightful picture. The first round of the championship was played in conjunction with a bogey handicap. The morning saw many of the players making mistakes, and few cards reached the' standard of those on Saturday. The greens were fairly heavy. During the week-end the second place in the 36-hol e medal handicap of Saturday was played off. A. Duncan and J. B. Parker again tied, and the match was decided on this morning's bogey handicap. Parker won, 2 up, as. against Duncan's 1 up. The bogey handicap this morning Bhowed one or two very fine cards. Ken Duncan showed the extraordinary result of 7 up, and his opponent, ■; Hales, vtas 5 up. H. P. Blundell did 41 out and 38 in, finishing 4 up, after starting vrith two 6's. The championship. round this morning resulted as follows: — . A. Duncan beat H. R. H. Balneavis, 5 up and j3 to play. K. Duncan beat E. 0. Hales, 4 up and 3. J. B. Parker beat J. E. Petley, 1 up. R. O. Chesney beat D. Whyte, 2 up. Rana Wagg beat E. D. Liddle, 5 up J. C. Bidwill beat J. B. M'Ewan, 4 and 2. • T. H. Horton beat J. H. Drake, 2 and L. Speedy beat A. E, Conway, 3 and 2. , The bogey handicap saw the following amongst the best cards: —K. Duncan, 7 up; E. O. Hales, 5 up; H. P. Blundell, 4 up; Colonel Chesney> 2 up; D. Whyte, 2 up; J. Ward, 2 up; J. B. Parker, 2 up.
