LICENSING COMMITTEE ELECTION
STATUTORY HALF-HOLIDAY.
The poll for the election of a Licensing Committee for the Wellington Licensing District will be held on Tuesday next between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. As it is many years since such an election was held, in Wellington, employers should note, the provisions of the law which have been framed with a view to allowing employees to record their votes. Section 46 of the Licensing Act. 1908, declares that the provisions of section 39 of the same statute shall extend and apply to the day on which the election of a Licensing Committee takes place. The secSTon referred to contains a provision that a public halfhoiiday shall be observed between noon and 7 p>m. 1b is therefore compulsory for all businesses, eLe., to close at midday, in any licensing area in ; which an election is being held.
