NATIONAL IDEALS
HERE AND IN AUSTRALIA
NEW ZEALAND FLAG-WAVING
DISLIKED BY ARCHBISHOP.
JULIUS,
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT.)
(Received Bth March, 11 a.m.)
SYDNEY, This Day
Archbishop Julius is sailing for New Zealand by the Manuka on Friday. In the course of an interview, comparing Australia and New Zealand, he said that he had noticed ho aggressive national sentiment in Australia such as prevailed in New Zealand. He did not care for the New Zealand ideal of flag-waving. The thing must be quiet and deep.
Commenting on the effort of the Lambeth decisions on New Zealand^ ho said that the proposals were kindly and •warmly received. Still there was no apparent tendency at present for ecclesiastical union. Councils representing the different Churches had been formed to deal with social questions and had done good work. In one instance an interchange of pulpits took place, but that was opposed to the Lambeth proposals. 'In any case it was purely a superficial matter.
