SOME CLOSE WORK.
The second round and the semi-final of the champion of champion rink games were played on the Wellington Club's green yesterday afternoon. FoDo'.viiig were the scores in the second round : — Wellington (Hill), 30; Karori (Crawford), 9. Petone Central (Pawson), 23; Newtown (Wylie), 5. Victoria (Snaddon), 24; Eastbourne (Johns), 11. Johnsonville (Cook), 24; Thorndon (Thomson), 20. j In the semi-finals the scores were:-— j Wellington (Hill), 19; Johnsonville (Mills), 18. Snaddon (Victoria), 23; Central (Pawson), 20. Hill and Snaddon are meeting in the final this afternoon. One of the . biggest surprises of yesterday afternoon was the defeat of Wylie (Newtown) by. Pawson (Central) by 23 points to 5, and another unanticipated event was the victory of the Johnsonville rink skipped by Cook over Thomson (Thorndon). In the semifinal, Hill had his work cut out to beat Mills, the young Johnsonville skip showing plenty of resource. On the twentyfirst head Mills drew a beautiful fourth shot, which made him level with Hill. On the play-off, however, Hill had the winning shot. Petone Central had a hard battle with Victoria, and, although at one stage the score was 17-5 against them, they eventually went down by only^three points..
