FERTILE IN FRAUDS

BERLIN, 6th March.
Post-war Germany is fertile \n novel, fraude. All cigarettes are subject to an Excise Duty of 40 per cent., and a luxury tax of 6 per cent, more, the fact that the tax- has been paid being certified by a. band gummed on the boxes. Forgers found a highly profitable source of income in counterfeiting the. band. About five hundred, million cigarettes, being 25 per cent, of the total, now escape the duty annually owing to forged Excise bands, representing a loss to thq Exchequer of £2,000,000. -
