WELLINGTON CENTRE

COLOUR GAMES ABANDONED.

The Wellington Bowling Centre, at its meeting last night, decided that he Red, White, and Blue competitions be abandoned for this season. Mr. F. Meadowcroft presided over the meeting. Mr. S. Potter moved that the clubs at present heading the list in the thre,e divisions be adjudged the winners. Mr. A. Coles moved, as an amendment, and Mr. M. J. Hodgins seconded, that the competition be abandoned altogether this season. Mr. R. Reed considered that the centre had no power to declare the games off without first of ali referring the matter to the clubs. His own club (Seatoun) had a chance of winning one section, and it was not fair to deny it the right of winning. Mr. Potter said that some clubs were in such a position that they could not lose their sections. Rather than nave the competition abandoned, these clubs should be declared the winners. Mr. J. S. Keith did not think it fair to stop the competition at an uncompleted stage. Unless the competition cou d be fought right out it ought to be declared off. Clubs were not responsible for bad weather. The ■ amendment that thfj Colour games be abandoned was carried by 9 votes to 5, the centre deciding to inform clubs that the reason for this action was the lateness of the season and the bad weather that had led to postponements. The report of the hon. treasurer (Mr. A. G. Edwards) showed that the credit balance in the centre's accounts stood at £113 18s lOd. The treasurer also reported that there wat a debit in respect to the New South Wales visit of £38 5s 4d, and in respect to the Marlborough visit a debit of £8 13s 6d. The receipts in connection with the New South Wales visit were £15, and the expenditure £53 5s 4d. The Marlborough visit cost £11 Is, the receipts being £2 '7s 6d. Mr. Edwards stated that three or four clubs had yet to pay the levy of Is per member imposed in connection with the Queensland visit. The Eastern Suburbs clubs were granted permission to hold a tournai ment at Easter.

' Kelburn, Petone, and Victoria were, reported to be the clubs left in section A of the junior pennants. Petone and Victoria will play off'at Thorndon green on 17th March, and the winner of that game will the . same afternoon play Kelburn, which has the bye in the first game. On the following Saturday, 24th • March, the winnere of section A 1 will play Island Bay, winners of section B. , It was decided to present the prizes won during the season after the final in the champion of champion rinks competition on Thursday afternoon. A visit of a. Wanganui team will be made to Wellington next Wednesday and Thursday. The. visitors are to be entertained at the Wellington green on the Wednesday afternoon, and Dy ilie Petone, ■ Hutt, and Central Clubs at Petone green on Thursday. The centre passed a motion of appreciation of the Herctaunga Golf Club'in entertaining the Now South Wales bowlers, and a, similar vote was passed to Mr. and Mrs. I. • Salek for .entertaining, the ladies who accompanied the Queensland and New South Wales teams. A hearty voto of'thanks'* atos also passed to- Mr. R:- W. Shallcrass" for hi? excellent secretarial work in connection with the Queensland and New South Wales visits. . '• • : A long typewritten letter from Mr. C. R. Ingram in reference to the one-foot-on-the-mat rule was deferred for consideration until next meeting. The letter was not read, but copies ere to be forwarded to each member of tbe centre. ■ TARANAKI BOWLERS.
