LABOUR PARTY

REPRESENTATION COMMITTEE,

There was a large attendance at the last meeting of the Wellington Labour Representation Committee, over which Mr. T. Brindle presided.

Applications for affiliation were received from the Hairdressers' Assistants' Union, the Amalgamated Engineering Union, the Gasworkers' Union, the Electrical Workers' Union, and the Eelated Printing Trades Employees' Union. The total membership on which these unions will pay affiliations is in the neighbourhood of 800. New delegates were heartily welcomed from the first three of these unions and from the Seamea's. Union.

The monthly financial statement- revealed that the deficit arising from the General Election had almost been liquidated, largely as the result of the profits accruing from the social welcome to Labour M.P.'s, and two very successful public meetings held during the session. A complaint was received from the Wellington South branch regarding the early date fixed by the National Office for the final receipt of remits to _ the annual conference. It was explained that, due to the abnormal pressure of work in December in connection with the elections, the National Secretary had been unable to issue the communications inviting branches to forward remits until early in January. The L.R.C. had acted immediately on receipt of this. The 12th February had been decided on as the final date because conference this year would :. be held in April instead of in July, and because it was necessary to print the agenda and issue it in time for branches to discuss it and instruct their delegates.

A resolution was passed that the municipal election campaign be commenced during the second week an March.
