Y.W.C.A. CONFERENCE

ANNUAL MEETING OF DELEGATES. There were about fifty delegates present at the annual meeting of the New Zealand National Field Committee of the Y.W.C.A., which opened in Wellington yesterday. The delegates were welcomed by Lady Luke. The main business was the discussion of the findings of the World Conference of the Y.W.C.A., held in Austria. This conference made a number of recommendations regarding the policy to be adopted in the various parts of the world, and the most important of these were:—

"That all heads of departments and secretaries, including specialists, physical directors, industrial secretaries, etc.. should have a definite spiritual qualification of a personal Christian experience and a sense of vocation in their work." "That the highest standard of technical efficiency should be maintained." It was further affirmed that the work of the Y.W.C.A. should be in touch with scientific development; that the association should not be content to do merely remedial work, if it is possible to remove the cause of evil. That it should not be afraid of the spirit of adventure, but should undertake pioneer Work. Recognising the power of sacrifice, members should look for responsibility, rather than privilege, and should keep the purposes of the association ever before them. A very important finding was "that every group of members, including younger members, be given opportunity to pronounce on all important questions, taking part in all pol-icy-forming committees, both local and national, and sharing responsibility for raising and administering funds." Many matters relating to girls' work were dfalt with and tho resolution ngrccd lo : "That an international conference, of association workers among girls be hold within the next few years, and in the interim national conferences for a similar purpose be encouraged." It was decided that such a conference should be held at the end of July.

In the afternoon, thn" delegates were entertained by Mrs. Bucklcton, at her homo at Oriental Buy. and several routine matters weer dealt with.
