NEW ZEALAND BIRDS
VALUABLE COLLECTIONS FOR
CHRISTCHURCfr
C»I TELEGRAPH.—rRJSS ASSOCIATION.)
CHRISTCHURCH, 21st Feb. The collection of New Zealand native 1 birds of the late Sir Waiter Buller lias been acquired by purchase for the Canterbury Museiim from the representatives in England of Sir Walter Buller. This collection is very valuable, partly because of the number, excellent condition, and rarity of the birds, and partly from the fact that it is the Buller collection. The museum has also acquired the similar collection of , the late Dr. B. j\l. Moorhouse.
The^ value to science of these collections is even greater than their interest from the point of view of general natural history, for the Buller collection contains many of the specimens which Sir Walter Buller examined while preparing his volumes on the "Birds of Xew Zealand," and the Moorhouse collection has probably one_ of the best sets of native birds'' eggs in existence.
