THE COMMON ENEMY
A slight indication of the present state of world-organisation in the war against disease, summarised from an American writer's review, will be found in to-day's "Post." The writer, Mr. Tobey, of the "United States Health Council (which exists to co-ordinate, the activities of the numerous national health organisations in the United States), draws an encouraging picture of the big mobilisation which has been in progress duringl the past decade. The League of Nations, the greatest humanitarian movement ever inaugurated, acts as the headquarters of the world health movement, and there is every reason to hope that the campaign will grow in mass and in success at an impressive rate. The health organisation of New Zealand is generally fairly advanced ; in regard to child welfare it ranks high among the nations.. The common blessing of good health in this country has perhaps inclined New Zealanders to feel the more kindly towards those less happily surrounded, and to lend a sympathetic ear to the story of what the rest of the world is trying to do in the war against the common enemy. World Sanitation, Mr. Tobey remarks, is a twentieth century possibility; and though much has been done in reaching out for that ideal, a vast deal more remains to be done, in which every country, however remote, must take its share of work. The better its own national health, the greater its duty to the others.
