MEETING OF BOROUGH COU.NCIL.

The Eastbourne Borough Council met laßt eveiing, the Mayor (Mr. F. H. Mather) presiding. The following were also present:—Councillors C. Green, C. A. Marquis, T. W. Pilcher, T. H. Giles, H. M'Gill, C, Hartridge, W. H. Bennett.

At a special meeting prior to ordinary business, Wednesday was fixed as the statutory half-holiday. The general manager reported that the roads had received attention where necessary, but the staff had been principally engaged on the tennis courts. Tarring operations on the new courts were progressing, and would be finished this week. The necessary shelter sheds and conveniences were also in hand. The contractor for the pavilion expected to be finished this week. The erection of washhouse, storeroom, and conveniences in connection with the pavilion was being carried out by day labour. Receipts at the coal depot during December were reported to have amounted to £954 19s 6d, and the expenditure to £891 Is lid.

The Mayor stated that the Hutt Valley Power Board purposed holding during the coming week a meeting of Eastbourne ratepayers at which the scheme would bo outlined by the board's engineer.. A poll was being taken on the last day of the present month.
