GRUESOME DISCOVERY

TRAGEDY IN LONDON SUBURB.

(TOUTED PRESS ASSOCIATION COPTRIGHT.)

(AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.)

(Eeceived 11th January, noon.)

LONDON, 10th January.

Mrs. Middleton, wife of a Mercantile Marine officer, disappeared in August last. She went to live at a house in Begerit's Park occupied by one Maltby, a tailor, and used as business premises and dwelling. Maltby allowed the business to go to pieces, and had become a recluse prior to Mrs. Middleton's disappearance. She was frequently seen motoring with Maltby. It is stated that the latter told the police that he hadn't seen Mrs. Middleton since she left him in August.- Maltby rarely ventured from the house, and the water and gas services were disconnected by the authorities. Armed with a warrant granted by the sanitary authorities the police broke into the house. As they entered two shots were heard, and Maltby was found wounded in the head. He died in a few minutes. The police found Mrs. Middleton's body bent double, face downwards, in the bath in an advanced state of decomposition. There was very little water in the bath.
