FROM SOIL TO CITY

EXODUS OF FARMERS

SITUATION IN CANADA

HIGH TAXES AND HIGH INTEREST

THE CAUSE,

(UNITED TRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPIRN3HT.)

(AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLB ASSOCIATION.)

(Received 11th January, 11 a.m.)

BRANDON (Manitoba), 10th Jan.

President Burnell, of the United Farmers of Manitoba, addressing the annual convention, stated that the exodus of farmers from the soil to the cities is destroying Canadian agriculture and creating a situation threatening the foundations of Canadian prosperity. More farmers are in financial difficulties now than ever before, despite record-breaking crops. High taxes and high interest are creating the difficulty. He advocated a system of long-term finance at low interest and short-time credits adapted to the needs of agriculture.
