PLUNKET SHIELD
AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON
Now that the New Zealand team has teen selected, followers of the game will be interested in watching the performances of the nine New Zealand players who are' to take part in the Plunket 'Shield match, Wellington v. Auckland, which commences at the Basin .Reserve tS-morrow morning. Auckland _ will be represented by a very strong side, and a glance at ■ their batting order—which should be something like this: Horspool, Dacre, Sneddon, Smith, Anthony, M!Leod, Garrard, Whekn, Patersort, Alcott; and Rountree—give some idea of the task that will confront the Wellington bowlers. Auckland, however, had an almost equally strong team two years ago,- when Wellington defeated them by 105 runs and took possession of the Plunket Shield, and tnerp is no reason why history should not repeat itself. At one time it was thought that Rouritree, who/ injured a knee in the M.C.C. match at Auckland, would.be unable to play, but he is making a good recovery, and at the time of writing there is every prospect of his >beiug able to take the field. The match will be the twenty-eighth, betwen the two provinces, AucKland having won 17 and Wellington 7, while three have been draTCn. . . ■ ; , ■
Play will commence at 11 a.m. to mor. row,' at 2! p.m. on Christmas : Day, and at 11 a.m., on Boxing.Day. Arrangements have been made for. the free, supply of. hot water- to. patrons of the en> closure who desire to picnj6' there during the match.
