SQUALLY AND CHANGEABLE

Westerly gales were reported in various parts of the country this morning. A moderate gale was blowing at Foxton at _ 9 o'clock. Considerable rain has fallen in parts, especially districts with, a westerly aspect. Thirty-eight points were recorded at: Wangamii, 34 at Foxton, and 145 •at Arthur's Pass. The barometer is. still very low in the South, but has risen slightly.- In spite' of the local summer-like weather, conditions are far from settled, and squally and changeable weather is forecasted generally ; rain probable on the West Coast and in the southern districts, and showery at times elsewhere. The barometer is unsteady.
