VISITING BOYS' BAND

Vivian, who is making arrangements for the forthcoming visit of the Porisonby Boys' Band. -The members of the band, which, will arrive' here on Tuesday,'in .the -course of its tour round the Dominion, are to be the guests of Mr. Matt Carr and the Rotary Club, and will stay at the V.M.C.A. 'The expenses of the tornare naturally heavy, and it was hoped to reimburse the band funds from /collec-, tions at the various concerts. The oV ject of the tour is to create interest in band music in the various centres, and explain their system of band administration..'to anyone interested in 8 starting, brass band instrumentation with \ bo3 rs. There are thirty-one boys in the band, and Mr.; Fred J. Lawn is conductor. It is equipped with Benson's A grade, silver instruments, which cost over, £1000. In th 1 eir send-of! from Auckland, it was stated that they left with the recommendations of the Mayor, the Rotary Club, and the Minister of Education, and the goodwill of every section of the com- ' munity. ' In Wellington the band will open on the Town Hall steps at 8' p.m. on Tuesday as a mark of respect to the' authorities. They will play at Island Bay at 10 a.m., and Lyall Bay at 2.30 T>-m. on Wednesday. These will be preliminary concerts to a longer series early in January, when the band returns from the South' Island. ■. ;
