SCHOOL CONCERTS
The annual "break-up" concert in cohiiectkm with the Ly'all Bay School was arranged by the teaching staff as a "Christmas box" to the committee, and took place in the Kilbirnie Hall en Wednesday evening. . The building was literally packed, and many were unable to find even standing room. Items were contributed by the infant classos, senior infants, standard 1., standard 3 girls, standards 5 and 6, Edna Raven, Irii Tonks, Vera Milroy, Eva Clay, Joan Piilethorpe, and Effie Brice. 'The second pai-fc was entirely contributed by Miss Leah Hyman,, A.T.C.L., and her pupils. .\ Items were given by Miss Hyraan, her senior pupils, Misses Nance Graham, MOna. Pearce, Grace Frandi, DofOthy Graham, Mavis Follett, and Nona Kerr, and concerted pieces , by Misse? Linda Carter, and Jessie Bellmarij Grace Frandi, and Mona Pearce,; Jessie Bellman, Averill, Nekon, Myra Walters, Grace Frandi, Nellie "Burkett, Linda Carter, Connie Sheppard, and Elvira Frandi. Miss Violet Reith was at the piano. The chairman (Mr. A. ■Sando) presented the proficiency, competency, -and endorsed competency certificates, . brooches to Millicent Slyiield (dux) and Mary Neville (prox. access), a bat (donated by Mr. T. E. K. Burgess) to O)vefi Best, for highest points aggregate in schools sports meeting, and three special prizes, given for essays, by the Phoenix Aerated Water Company. Cheers were given ior the headmaster (Mr. A. C. Blake) and the teaching staff, and a special vote of thanks to Miss Leah Hyman and jMr. E. Palliser,. The chairman announced a special holiday on Friday in recognition of the all- 1 round excellent performance of the scholars. . . . _ *
The,annual Wadestdwn School concert was held in St. Andrew's Schoolroom en Tuesday last, before a very large and appreciative audience. The programmes had been decorated by the children, and were the subject of much favourable comment. Outstanding numbers were the folk/dances by the small ■ t:hildren, who had been admirably trained by Miss L. Lewis, of Canada; a trio,. by the Turner Bros, and D. Miller; a Scottish impersonation by D. Miller; and a solo by 0. Turner. The School Choir (unaccompanied) Was heard iii part-songs. Other numbers were given by R. Miller, M. Cook, M. Pemberton, J. Collins, R. Cook, M. Wiffin, and E, Curtis.
