LIFTING WHEAT

(UNITIB PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPTRIGHT.)

(Received 14th December, noon.)

SYDNEY, This Day. The Australian brokers ' have been promised a share in the chartering of wheat for overseas. Three Japanese steamers arriving from the East are also to load wheat. Shipping circles in Sydney recently objected to a proposal of the London office ■of the Commonwealth Line to plsoe arrangements for lifting new season's Australian wheat in the hands of a combination of London chartering houses. As an inducement for the adoption of the scheme of chartering ■ the commission' has been fixed at 6£ per cent., in lieu of 6 per cent., but it is contended that the apparent reduction will not reduce freights, and, on.the other hand,'such a monopoly will tend to advance freights. Victoria, South Australia, and West Australia are favourable to the soheme, but New South Wales is determined to adhere to the open market.
