WILFULLY MISLED
CASES UNDER THE ELECTORAL
ACT.
(11 TiUSfIRAPH.—PRBSS ASSOCIATION.)
AUCKLAND, Ist December.
James Thomas Kyle, assistant secretary to the Auckland Seamen's Union, was fined £5 in the Police Court on each of two charges of having wilfully misled the Registrar of Electors in the compilation of the roll t*y delivering to him claims for enrolment, witnessed by defendant, containing false qualifications. The case arose out of claims by seamen who were represented as having resided for twelve months in the Dominion. At the hearing of the charges against the seamen they declared they signed the forms without reading them, believing they referred to union matters. They asserted that no questions were asked. The Magistrate previously dismissed the informations against the seamen. 'Kyle's defence was that all the questions were asked, and the men's answers recorded.
