MELBOURNE, 18th November

The weather was glorious and the wicket good ,for to-day's play in the .match between MacLaren's team and Victoria. There was rain overnight, but the wicket was protected. The attendance was 15,000.

Runs came at a good pace, SO being made in -43 minutes. Hartkopf gave a fine exhibition, and hit nine „ fours. Woodful was cautiouß. Tyldesley , kept the runs down. Hartkopf gave a sharp chance to MacLaren in the slips when the score wasi 56. The Woodful-Hart-kopf partnership added 144 runs to the Victorian score. Wobdful was brilliantly run. out by Chapman, after batting 165 minutes. He hit three fours. Ransford was smartly caught in the slips. The English fielding generally was of a high standard.
