Councillor W. J. Thompson, chairman of the Reserves Committee, accompanied by Mrs. Thompson, left to-day on a visit to Porangahau. Thay will be absent from Wellington for about ten days.

Sir Alfred Pickford, Imperial Commissioner of Boy Scouts for Overseas Dominions;' will visit Australia shortly, and is expected to reach Perth, Western Australia, on 29th December. Sir Alfred will be'present at the "corroboree" of Boy Scouts in Sydney, and will tour Australia till May. It is hop«d to make arrangements for Sir Alfred to visit New Zealand, at the. conclusion, of hi« Australian tour.

Mr. Henry Nevinaon Harrison, one of the best-known settlers in the Wangamri district,' died yesterday in his 85th year (states a Press Association message). He arrived in New Zealand in 1840, and went back to England to be educated/ On returning in 1855,' he managed Sir Donald M'Lean's property at Akitio, and then took up the One Tree Hill farm at Fordell, where !he resided till nine years ago, when he retired. He was a steward of ibe Jockey Club from its inception, and. was its patron at the time of his death.

Mr. D. Dennehy, coach of the Mariei Brothers senior Rugby team, who is leaving for the United Kingdom this week, was farewelled on Saturday evening by about. 100 members and friends of the Marist, Bros. Old Boys' Asso^ ciation. ,He was the^recipient of a gold watch as a token of esteem, and was also handed a ladies' bag, a token for Mrs. 1 Dennehy. Mr. \i. Sievenj spoke in high praise of the fine work that had. been done by Mr. Dennehy; in the sports; activities of the association, and' Messrs.' T. A. Fletcher and J. Moffitt, of the Rugby Referees' Association, made reference to the good sportsmanship that had resulted from Mr. Dennehy's work with the senior Rugby- team. Mr. Leslie, of the Poneke Club, also added a tribute. During the evening presentations were also made to Father Kane (in appreciation of his valuable services to the club) and to Messrs. Creed andi Coleman (who were recently married).
