ENROLMENTS AT BUREAU
A shipping Labour bureau has been opened in Cuba street for the purpose of enrolling free labour,- and tins morning there was a steady stream of applicants. The men were not actually engaged at tile bureau, bnt their names wefo taken, and they were assured that they would be called upon later, "possibly in a few hours." Most,of the men applying for work have had experience at sea. One man boasted' forty years' experience and complained that he had been for six weeks unemployed. He was anxious for an .engagement. Those who liavs not had actual sea experience have been used to heavy manual labour, such as stoking in a/ gasworks. Most of the men applying for work express a willingness to go anywhere, so it should not be difficult for the employers to man any ship for any service. No information was given as to the number of men enrolled, butT it is probable that about fifty, names were registered this morning-
