MOTOR TRAGEDY

CAR GOES OVER BANK

ONE KILLED: TWO INJURED.

A tragedy occurred on the main load on the Masterton side of Eketahuna shortly before noon yesterday, when a car left the road and fell about forty feet over a bank, the result being that Mr. Corrie Ayßon, motor mechanic, of Palmorston North, is dead, and two others—Mr. George Ayson, late manager of the International Correspondence Schools, and Mr. W. W. Orr, Customhouse agent, of Seatoun—are in Masterton Hospital, the former seriously injured. The party was travelling to Wellington from Pahnerston North via Wairarapa. Mr. Orr was driving the car, which was owned by Mr. J. Ayson. On a stretch of road known as Bowen's road, the car got into a rut on a muddy road. Endeavouring to get out of this, Mr. Orr, who is an experienced driver, accelerated, and the" car took the road suddenly, and, skidding, went over the bank. The accident was discovered by a passing motorist, who made the injured men as comfortable as possible, and then went for assistance. Dr. Simmers went to the scene from Eketahuna, arid conveyed the injured men to hospital. Mr. Ayeon died on the way. Mr. J. Ayson wae found to be suffering from a severe injury to the spine, and was in a serious condition. Mr. Orr escaped with, comparatively minor injuries. Both Messrs. Ayson and Orr a,re well known in Wellington. Mr. Orr is a brother of the Eev. Robertson Orr, and Mr. Ayeon is a relative of Judge Ayson, of the Native Land Court.
